VOLUNTEERS and pupils at Horwich Parish school raised a cuppa to celebrate their involvement in a new million-pound community scheme.
The group was marking the launch of Engage Mutual’s £1 million Engage Foundation — which it played a pivotal role in shaping.
Last year, the school received funding from assurance and savings firm Engage, to help transform an outdoor space surrounding the school into a learning zone and allotment.
The process was kicked off when Anne Nightingale, aged 46, a parent governor at the school and an Engage Mutual customer, applied for financial help on the school’s behalf.
The project was then taken on by reception teacher, Leonie Magilton.
Mrs Nightingale said: “I’m delighted we were awarded the funding.
“All credit to Leonie. Her enthusiasm and passion has made this happen.”
The Engage Foundation will provide £25,000 each for two community projects and £5,000 each for 15 smaller projects each year, aiming to directly benefit communities.
