STAFF at a Bury steel fabrication firm put in a “peak” performance to raise £1,300 for the North West Air Ambulance charity.

21 employees of The William Hare Group fulfilled a real test of endurance by tackling Yorkshire’s Three Peaks — Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough — in under 12 hours.

Together with other separate fundraising challenges, the final total for North West Air Ambulance was boosted to £1,800.

Judith Watts, human resources manager for William Hare, based in Brandlesholme Road, explained: “The Air Ambulance was suggested by several of our employees as our potential charity of the year.

“When we looked into it we were impressed not only by the valuable work that it does, but the fact that it is totally reliant on donations to fund its operations and so we were keen to lend our support.”

Lynda Brislin, chief executive at North West Air Ambulance, said: “We are always grateful for the efforts of companies like the William Hare Group as they go a long way to help to keep our helicopters operational and saving lives across the North West.

“We are really impressed by the enormity of the task that the team went through to in order to show their support.”

North West Air Ambulance helicopters fly 365 days a year, with the doctors and paramedics on board providing rapid treatment and hospital transfers. Since it launched in 1999, the charity has flown more than 11,000 missions.
