A PEDESTRIAN was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Westhoughton.

The 56-year-old man is believed to have been walking across Leigh Road, Westhoughton, near the Winifred Kettle care home, at about 6pm on Monday, when he was knocked down by a black Renault Clio, which was driven by a man.

He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital but is not thought to have suffered serious injuries.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and police attended. 

A police spokesman said: “We were called to Leigh Road at its junction with Washacre. The road was not closed.”

A NWAS spokesman said: “The NWAS was called at 6.11pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian. The man appeared to be awake. He was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.”

No arrests were made.
