CLITHEROE man Melrose Diack MBE has been recognised for his work with young people in the Ribble Valley.

He was honoured by the Halifax Giving Extra Awards after launching Clitheroe Youth Forum 15 years ago, and for continuing to provide activities for youngsters in the area who had been excluded from mainstream education and youth services.

Melrose said: “I would like to thank the judges for this award. I am absolutely blown away. I have doing this for 15 years now and I am very proud of all the young people I have worked with.”

Nominated by his partner Helen Gordon, Melrose still takes youngsters on activities, including caving, rock climbing, and sailing, despite having arthritis.

Awards ambassador, TV presenter Jenni Falconer said: “Melrose truly deserves this recognition for all he has done to help others, improve community life and has made a real difference to the people living in Clitheroe.”

Halifax launched the Giving Extra Awards in November to celebrate the unsung heroes who are giving something back in their communities, whether that is through helping and supporting their community or going that extra mile for family and friends.
