A MAN has been arrested after a police car chase in Bolton.

Five police cars were spotted racing up Tonge Moor Road at about 6.30pm tonight in pursuit of a silver Astra van. 

The 36-year-old man then abandoned the vehicle in Fountains Avenue, Tonge Moor, and fled on foot.

He was caught by police minutes later and has been held for questioning.

A police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested and is now being questioned.

"We cannot release details of his offences tonight."

The chase, which included a police helicopter, lasted about four minutes.

4 min chase?. Good job there were 5 police cars and a helicopter already in the vicinity then. If you ring the police, it takes longer than that for them to respond
