A TV star from Burnley has seen his way clear to giving out £10,000 - which he collected by watching his weight for months on end.

Just 12 months Jeff Brown, the face of Safestyle Windows ads, shed more than five stone to complete the Jane Tomlinson Pennine Lancashire 10km run.

He became involved in a big-money wager with Todmorden-based Premier Range and collected the five-figure sum from bosses for completing the course.

Now Jeff has pledged to redistribute his winnings among good causes in the Burnley area and is inviting bids.

Jeff said: “It’s fair to say I’m not a natural runner and it was quite a tough challenge to take on but, with so much money pledged, I was determined to complete the course.

“It was a great feeling to cross the finishing line and it is wonderful that the Jane Tomlinson Appeal has decided to give the money to charities in our area.”

He made the promise as entries were thrown open for the 2014 run, sponsored by the Asda Foundation, which will set off from Burnley Mechanics on Sunday, June 22.

Siobhan Curtis, Jane Tomlinson Appeal legacy manager, said: “Jeff showed great determination and commitment in training for the run and we are very proud of him for managing to complete the challenge he was set.

“It is fitting that charities in Burnley and surrounding areas will now have the opportunity to join in the Big Charity Giveaway and apply for a share of the money his efforts raised.”

Clarets boss Sean Dyche and full-back Kieran Trippier were also on hand to help launch the race at Burnley FC’s Gawthorpe training ground.
