HOSPITAL boss Val Bertenshaw says Burnley’s new Urgent Care Centre will ‘transform’ the environment for patients.

The £9 million unit, for the treatment of illnesses and injuries which are not life-threatening but still need treating quickly, opened last Tuesday.

Mrs Bertenshaw, director of operations at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The new build at Burnley General Hospital will transform the environment for our patients, as many of these services were housed in facilities built in the 1960s and 70s.

“It also gives us the opportunity to integrate some of our urgent care services with primary care.”
