A Bury drama student is returning to the classroom after landing a role in the TV show ‘Waterloo Road’.

Leo Flanagan, who studied Performing Arts at Bury College, is now in Scotland filming his part as a regular character in the series.

The 18-year-old was a star performer during his time at the college, and received a triple distinction star grade, —the equivalent of gaining three A-star grades at A Level.

He was talent spotted by the Morrello Cherry Actors Agency after attending an acting workshop.

Darren RL Gordon, from the agency, said: “Leo was one of a number of focused, driven and talented artists we found at Bury College. His attitude shone as much as his ability and is clear testament to the quality of delivery offered at this centre.”

Leo, from Bury, took a number of lead roles in productions at the college, and was rewarded for exceptional achievement at the college’s celebration of achievement event.

The former student of Broad Oak High said: “My time on the Performing Arts course at Bury College really helped me grow as a performer.

“If it wasn’t for the course then I would not be in the fortunate situation that I’m in now.

“I met the agent I am with through a tutor on the course and I continued to speak with this agency and was soon signed up and on their books.

“I attended various auditions and was privileged to gain a second audition for Waterloo Road and to be offered the part, which I’m now filming in Scotland.”

Waterloo Road was originally filmed in Rochdale, until it moved north of the border in 2012.

Lisa Mee, Leo’s tutor at Bury College, added: “Leo worked alongside staff and fellow students with a sense of determination and drive throughout his two years in Performing Arts and it is a pleasure to see such a talent student succeed as he continues into the industry.”

It is believed Leo will appear in the next series of the show, which is set to hit screens later this year.
