A TOWN centre site undergoing redevelopment was shown to potential and existing business people at an ‘open lunch’.

More than 40 potential tenants and existing town centre retailers, were given a conducted tour of the ‘work in progress’ at the former McDonald’s site on Market Street which is being transformed into three single shop units plus a small kiosk.

The site was bought by Chorley Council after it lay derelict for more than a decade since McDonald’s moved to the town centre bypass.

The council first turned the rear of the site into a free car park and in November contractors were brought in to redevelop the buildings.

Coun Peter Wilson, deputy leader of Chorley Council, said: “We felt we had to take action to make something happen, it’s only by taking control that you can get something done.

“After buying the site we immediately cleared the back of it to create a free car park.

“Now the buildings are undergoing a £363,000 refurbishment to create three new retail units and a kiosk for rent. I was delighted to see so many people turned up to look at the potential of these new units.

“Obviously they are not ready yet, but we had the plans on display and people had the chance to speak to our officers on site to find out more about what’s on offer.

“We have had interest from potential tenants, however we’d still like to hear from others who’d like to know more about the lease terms and the grants available.”

The units are expected to be completed by the end of March.
