AN elderly woman had to be rescued by firefighters after she became trapped in a broken down lift.

The woman was using the lift at the Kingsbury Court Lodge sheltered housing complex in Heaton when it broke down just before 8pm.

Crews from Bolton Central fire station used a lift key to open the lift and free the woman.

Crew manager Richard Henthorne said: "The team acted quickly to help the woman who was shaken but not harmed."
