Blackburn doctor lied during misconduct hearing

This Is Lancashire: Blackburn doctor lied during misconduct hearing Blackburn doctor lied during misconduct hearing

A DOCTOR is set to be sanctioned after a tribunal found he gave a dishonest statement during a formal misconduct hearing.

Dr Olufemi Dina was working as a locum at Royal Blackburn Hospital in September 2010 when he was involved in the delivery of twins, one of whom later died from complications arising from the birth.

An inquest in 2012 ruled the boy’s death was ‘accidental’, but publicity from the case alerted regulators that Dr Dina may have been working in breach of conditions on his registration.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found yesterday that due to past misconduct, Dr Dina was subject to conditions of practice at the time of the incident, including a requirement to inform his professional body of any hospital work he accepted.

It found Dr Dina did not inform General Medical Council (GMC) of his posting at Blackburn, did not arrange necessary supervision from senior staff, and then made a dishonest statement about his efforts to inform the GMC of the posting.

He is expected to be sanctioned next week.
