A-LEVEL students at Burnley College Sixth Form spoke to multilingual employees during a recent trip to aerospace factory Aircelle.
Physics and foreign language students took part in the visit, which included a tour translated into French by an Aircelle employee.
The students were able to ask questions in French to gain an insight into how languages can be applied to a practical context.
The experience allowed students to see how the knowledge and experience they are developing in the classroom can be applied in a number of ways, including local industry, and does not always involve travelling.
It also allowed them to try out their language skills with native speakers.
Miriam Sherman, head of foreign languages at Burnley College, said: “We regularly arrange visits to France to enrich the studies of our A-level students, but we’re eager to find ways to do it locally as well.
“This scheme shows students that there are excellent career opportunities within the local area for those who can speak another language.”
