SUPPORTERS and political bigwigs dug deep to help out a prostate scanner appeal for Burnley General Hospital. Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle is behind a £75,000 push to equip the hospital with a new scanner – and have enough funds left over for equipment to support satellite clinics. Burnley FC launched a new ‘app’ with the help of former chairman Barry Kilby, to benefit the appeal, at Saturday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday. And veteran Liberal Democrat Mr Birtwistle put political differences aside to welcome former Home Secretary and Sheffield Brightside MP David Blunkett, ex-Labour deputy leader Lord Hattersley and Claret-loving former Number 10 spokesman Alastair Campbell, to support the appeal at Turf Moor.
