Clitheroe sweet shop to close

A SWEET shop is to close at the end of the month.

Candycopia, in Swan Courtyard off Castlegate, Clitheroe, informed customers on Facebook.

Owner Robert Taylor said on the social media site that lack of trade was the reason.

He said: “Clitheroe as a whole is suffering at the moment and my pockets are not deep enough to keep on bailing the shop out.

“We just have not been able to get enough people to come through the door.

“For a variety of reasons we will be ceasing trading on January 29.

“It's not been an easy decision and we wish it wasn't happening but it is.

“We’ve enjoyed the last 11 months getting to know our regulars and being part of the Clitheroe retail scene and we’ll miss you guys.”

Not really a surprise unfortunately, apart from the supermarkets selling sweets and WH Smith's, the American sweets they sell are also sold by the one down King Street that has been there years and the newish one on Moor Lane, Clitheroe can only keep so many going.

So if hes only been trading 11 months maybe its not 'Clitheroe thats suffering' but his flawed business model?
...
I personally think that 2014 will see plenty of retail opportunities in Clitheroe and I certainly don't see that Clitheroe is suffering.
...
Increasing population, rising house prices and the improving economic climate will all bring back the feel good factor and make 2014 full of opportunities...
