RUNAWAY pigs have returned home after helping create wildlife habitats.
The three saddleback sows ran off in November to Moor Piece nature reserve, close to Clitheroe.
After being found they are now heading home to a farm near to Wigan. The pigs had been called in by Lancashire Wildlife Trust to dig and munch deep into the mossy reserve helping create the perfect habitat for native plants and creatures.
However they escaped from their fenced enclosure and were missing until a friendly farmer spotted the pigs close to nearby moorland.
The trust’s eastern reserves officer Phil Dykes said: “The pigs have succeeded in turning over some of the ground within the fenced off one hectare compound and we all feel that they have had a happy time up in the woodland.”
