TWO local football teams will be hauled before league bosses after a ‘mass brawl’ erupted on the pitch on Saturday.

The 2pm game, between Blackburn United Reserves and Rishton United Reserves, left many players with bloody noses and bruises.

It is understood the fight started on the Pleasington pitch after Blackburn United were awarded a penalty late in the game.

Some spectators said there were more than 40 people on the pitch fighting, including players and managers, and referee Andrew Wareing was forced to abandon the match with the score at 3-3.

No-one from either club was available to comment today and police said they had not been called.

The teams, who both play in the Blackburn and District Football Combination, will now be pulled before the league committee who will decide what action needs to be taken.

The league declined to comment on the case until they had received a full match report but confirmed action would be taken against the clubs following the ‘mass brawl’.
