NEVER mind the traditional satsuma or apple in your Christmas stocking, Burnley gardeners say carrots, cauliflowers and spuds should be all the rage.

Supporters of Burnley Cropshare are urging ethically-minded shoppers to consider indulging in perhaps their most environmentally-friendly present.

Veggie vouchers are now on offer for bargain hunters, offering the lucky recipient a month’s worth of organic produce, all grown locally.

And the bags of vegetables, in either £24 or £40 ranges, can be picked up at one of seven collection points across the area.

Jenny Slaughter, the director of Burnley Foodlinks, which is behind Cropshare, said: “It’s unusual, local and probably the most ethical present you can buy for someone.

“It can be very difficult to find interesting presents for friends especially when they seem to have everything they want already.”
