AN array of “upcycled” items, showcasing how some goods can be improved, recycled and put to an alternative use, proved an attraction for shoppers at Bury’s Mill Gate centre.

The display was the brainchild of TeamvBury, a branch of vinspired, a charity which connects young people aged between 16 and 25 to volunteering opportunities.

Among those supporting the event were Bury councillors Roy Walker and Peter Bury, who saw upcycled items range from bottletop pin badges to a stool.

And members of the public were able to make pledges on a canvas map of the world which was featured as part of the TeamvBury stall, located in The Haymarket.

Uzma Chaudhry, TeamvBury leader, said: “The stunt went fantastically well.

“We were able to speak to people from all walks of life, to find out what Bury is already doing in the way of recycling.

“And we were able to get 105 pledges from members of the public about the conscious changes that they will be making this Christmas.”

One child promised to give all her toys to charity while another visitor pledged not to buy new clothes for a month.
