What sort of country have we become where people complain about kids playing football in the street?

When I was a boy over 40 years ago, playing football in the street was normal. No-one complained.

Playing football in the street is one thing, shouting abuse at people, throwing grit from the grit bin over cars scratching them, being generally anti social. Now that's not just a game of football in the street. I would welcome any child who wants a friendly game in the street as long as he/she is mindful of others and their property

I f houses were not being built on every last bit of grass in Darwen they would not have to play football on the streets.........play
ing out in the fresh air is a rarity with children now in this age of technology and cannot believe people would try and stop this natural behaviour!!!!!!!! I encourage my children to get off the computers, games consoles, tablets etc and go to play out in the fresh air.............

Speaking as someone who in the past has had to put up with these antics that children play. Climbing over you garden wall causing damage, shouting obscenities, litter left behind them, the constant repetitive sound of the bouncing ball. All caused by parents not caring what their little offspring’s are getting up to. If you have children please take the responsibility to look after them yourselves. Don’t leave it to everyone else to have to put up with them. Or don’t have them at all, go and get yourselves a hobby instead!

There is a large grassed area at the top of Argyle street spanning most of the length of Greenway, are they too lazy to walk that short distance, I suppose in their defence the area is full of dog mess, probably their dogs anyway so why don't they go play in it, they will soon learn respect......

People will complain about just about anything nowadays, on the face of this report it makes the people complaining sound like a right bunch of grumpy morons, however i doubt that this is the whole story and the reporter suffers from Acute ADHD and failed to finish the story. Yes, its a GOOD thing that kids play outside with other kids, its important for social development, and much better than excluding themselves in their rooms in front of an Xbox - the problem is Media outlets (the LET included) sensationalise bad stories over good, and make out that there's a paedo around every corner, in every street and parents refuse to let their kids play out, or if they do, they are within view so chances are folks, these kids, are likely your close neighbours kids. do something novel, and speak to your neighbours, find out who the kids are. I used to live in the area and know the grass Darreners Make Sense speaks of, and i know that it is exactly the place where the local dog owners from Argyle/Greenway/Pres
ton St etc go take their dogs for a dump late at night - and no, most of them dont take poo bags.
