STAFF from a Bolton school put their best foot forward during a sponsored walk in memory of a pupil who died last year.

The walk saw 10 members of staff from Ladybridge High School in Bolton travel to Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley.

The four-hour trek had been organised in memory of Abigail Lightbown, who died at the age of 11 in November. 2012.

Abigail had been a pupil at Ladybridge for a short time before she lost her battle with illness.

Transition leader, Nicola Burgess, who spent a lot of time with Abigail, said: “She touched everyone in her short time at the school. She was just a happy, smiley and determined person and an absolute pleasure to be around.

“The walk was great, we didn’t raise quite as much as we had hoped because there weren’t that many people up and about but the atmosphere amongst us was really good.

“We will be doing the walk again next year and hope to make it a bigger and better event by getting children from the school involved.”

It is not yet known how much was raised. All proceeds will go to Derian House.
