Treats in town for festive Chorley shoppers

CHORLEY'S main Christmas attraction, a 30 metre long snow slide, arrives in town this week.
Construction started on Monday, with the snow slide opening at the Flat Iron car park on Saturday, December 14, and running until Sunday, January 5.
Throughout the festive period, the slide will be surrounded by a Christmas Market which will be selling gifts and hot food and drinks as well as a German bar.
The slide will be on the corner of the car park and for the opening weekend there will also be an ice rink in the Walled Garden, Astley Park, with a land train running between the two attractions on Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15.
The attraction, which costs £2 for three slides, will be open every day over the Christmas period from 10am until 8pm, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Councillor Peter Wilson, deputy leader of Chorley Council, said: “We’ve had a great start to Christmas in Chorley with thousands of people turning out for the Christmas lights switch-on and town has been really busy.
“Following the success of Chorley’s big wheel we wanted to bring another attraction that would encourage people to come into the town centre to have some fun and get into the festive spirit while doing their Christmas shopping.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the snow slide in Chorley and I’ve already had a lot of people saying they can’t wait to have a go”
Several dozen parking spaces will be taken up by the slide and motorists are advised to consider using alternative car parks while the attraction is in town.
