Avid Paul Walker fan from Burnley holds charity event

This Is Lancashire: Andy Lockey Andy Lockey

A BURNLEY man has organised a tribute evening to Hollywood actor Paul Walker who died in a car crash at the end of last month.

The 40-year-old actor was well known for his role in The Fast and the Furious film franchise and was a favourite of car fans across the world.

Andy Lockey has organised the event at the Trafford Centre on Sunday which around 1,000 people are expected to attend.

He said: “This event is being held to show our respects to an avid car enthusiast, a childhood icon and a great actor.”

The event, which will also raise money for armed forces charity Help for Heroes, is being held in an overflow carpark at the centre just outside Manchester from 7pm on Sunday.

The event has proved incredibly popular with drivers of modified cars, and car enthusiasts are travelling from as far afield as Staffordshire and Cheshire to attend the event, with many planning to arrive in convoy. After the meeting many of the drivers are also planning to cruise around the local area to show off their modified cars.

Andy said: “There were lots of other events going on around the world and around England, but there wasn’t one in the North West.

“I thought if nobody else is going to organise one then I’d do it.

“The local council has said it’s ok and there are people coming from all over, as far as Stoke, and even further south.

“For everyone with modified cars Paul Walker was a big icon, with the films he did.

“I followed him outside the films too, he had his own race team.

“He was just another car enthusiast, and an icon and he is now going to be very missed.” To find out more about the event, go to facebook.com/events/542442039176306
