A BLACKBURN company has been named as the winner of a social media-based competition run by a former Dragon’s Den star.

Smart Thermostat manufacturer, Heatmiser, was chosen by Theo Paphitis as the winner of his #SBS competition on twitter.

The online competition, which stands for Small Business Sunday, was created by the entrepreneur in October 2010.

Each week Mr Paphitis rewards small businesses across the country that tweet him @TheoPaphitis and describe their business in 140 characters or less.

He then reviews and chooses his favourites who are then re-tweeted to his 402,000 followers.

As a winner of the competition, office manager Sarah Greenwood and managing director Gordon Kay were invited to an SBS event in Birmingham.

Martyn Kay, a director at Heatmiser UK, said: “We are really chuffed that Theo took the time to read our tweet and our new website.

“We have put so much time and effort into the development Neo, our smart phone heating control system, and Theo’s recognition of our company is amazing.

“Product development is key at Heatmiser.

“We listen to feedback from customers and react with great products.

“We are proud to have been one of the first companies in the UK to launch a Wi-Fi enabled thermostat in 2011.

“The demand for smart phone control of the heating system has continued to grow ever since.”

The tweet that helped the company win the competition was: “@HeatmiserUK: Introducing Neo @TheoPaphitis #sbs The SmartPhone way to control your heating neo.heatmiser.com”
