Mayor of Blackburn honours 'litter picker'

This Is Lancashire: Blackburn Mayor and Mayoress Salim and Sayeeda Mulla with Ron O’Keefe Blackburn Mayor and Mayoress Salim and Sayeeda Mulla with Ron O’Keefe

A CHANCE encounter by the Mayor of Blackburn has been held up as a great example of the town’s “Your Call” initiative.

Blackburn Mayor Salim Mulla had been visiting a primary school when he saw his fellow councillor Ron O’Keefe on an impromptu litter pick in the district.

Councillor Mulla said: “I had just been for a lovely Mayoral engagement at Shadsworth Infant school, spending a couple of hours with children and teachers.

“On my way back I see this not so young gentleman litter picking, as we drove closer by, I saw this fantastic caring hard worker picking litter in the whole estate. I had to come out and take a photograph with Ron.

“What a fantastic example for all of us to follow including myself.

“Well done Ron, you are a credit to the town.” The Your Call initiative to show community pride and give opportunities to make a real difference in your community.

It encourages Blackburn folk to shop locally, join in a clean up, take action on domestic abuse or road safety, and make choices and actions count.

Well done Ron if only other people in their neighbourhood would do the same and take some pride in their surroundings

Well done to Ron, but he's not the only councillor who litter picks. Mill Hill Ward councillor Carol Walsh gets stuck into it too. There's also the unsung litter pickers, myself included who don't get a mention but do our share alongside the regular council workers who do a splendid job too. Alas within a very short time of any clean-up other people mess it up again. Whatever happened to the Mayor's anti-litter league?

I did this bagful last Saturday http://t.co/zuTxxwod

Whatever happened to the Mayors anti-litter league? Probably joined his benefit fraud league (this will be removed, can't say FA about Salim Mulla)
