A JEWELLERY chain boss who was touched by a Darwen teenager’s fundraising efforts has presented a cheque for £1,000 to East Lancashire Hospice.

Mark Adlestone, managing director of Beaverbrooks, ran with an Olympic torch alongside 16-year-old Caitlin Jones in Liverpool on June 1.

He was told how she had raised more than £10,000 for cancer charities since the death of her father from the disease, despite her own disabilities.

Caitlin, of Somerset Avenue, was born with a rare genetic disorder called Goldenhar Syndrome, which means she is hearing-impaired, autistic, has special educational needs, asthma and a heart condition.

Mr Adlestone was so inspired by Caitlin’s story that he pledged his stores would support her fundraising efforts.

Hospice fundraising manager Sharon Crymble said: “Caitlin has raised thousands of pounds for the hospice over the years and also given her time to volunteer for the hospice.

“Her passion to raise funds for our patients knows no bounds and on behalf of our patients, volunteers and all at the hospice, I would like to thank Caitlin for all her support."
