Hundreds enjoy Leverhulme Park firework display
THE SKY over Bolton was transformed into a sea of colour at an action-packed fireworks display.
Hundreds of revellers young and old packed into Leverhulme Park this evening to enjoy the riproaring 20-minute display.
Younger guests waved glowing swords and sparklers while others enjoyed a funfair.
The display was organised by Bolton Council and Bolton At Home and visitors said they thought it was the busiest in recent years.
Samantha Hurst, aged 36, of Tonge Fold, said: “I’ve been bringing my children here for about four or five years and this is definitely the busiest it has been, probably because the rain has stayed away and it’s not that cold.
“The kids love the fireworks and waving around all the brightly coloured toys here. It has been a lot of fun,” said Mrs Hurst, whose daughter Josie, aged nine, and son Peter, aged six, enjoyed the display with her.
Dennis Morley, aged 53, of Breightmet, said: “I think a lot of people like coming because they see it as the start of autumn. It’s a change to get your wellies on and enjoy something outdoors with lots of other people.
“I’m glad the council have put this on. With all the cuts, you often wonder if the annual display will be gotten rid off, but it’s wonderful to see the fireworks and to see so many people enjoying them, especially the kids.”
