BLACKBURN with Darwen Council is supporting a new NHS campaign.
The month-long Be Clear on Cancer ‘Blood in Pee’ campaign launched this week to raise awareness of the key symptoms of bladder and kidney cancer and encourage those experiencing the symptoms to see their doctor straight away.
If bladder and kidney cancers are diagnosed early they are more treatable.
Recent figures show 21 people died from bladder and kidney cancer in Blackburn with Darwen in 2010 from a total of 37 who were diagnosed with the disease.
Councillor Mohammed Khan, Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “It’s important for people to be aware of the symptoms of bladder and kidney cancer. If you notice blood in your pee, even if it’s just the once, tell your doctor.”
