Blackburn man was carrying explosives

A 30-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court on an explosives charge brought under legislation that goes back 130 years.
Timothy Douglas Rookledge, of St Peter Street, Blackburn, was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court charged that on December 1 2012 he knowingly had in his possession an explosive substance, namely pyrotechnic material, under such circumstances as to give rise to a reasonable suspicion that he did not have it in his possession or under his control for a lawful object.
The charge was brought under the Explosive Substances Act 1883 and carries a maximum sentence of 14 years.
