Blackburn and Darwen's big band in homecoming concert

BLACKBURN with Darwen’s youth ‘Big Band’ are swinging back to perform in their home borough after making sweet music at an international concert festival.
The 19 borough schoolchildren were given a standing ovation when they performed a series of concerts at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
The Blackburn with Darwen Music Service Big Band played six high profile concerts in five days sharing the stage with other international artists. This was the second year that the group has performed at the 10 day festival To celebrate the success the band will be performing at the Fernhurst on Blackburn Road in Ewood, Blackburn, on Sunday, November 10 at 8pm.
It is made up of pupils who live within the borough, many of who attend local state secondary schools including St Bedes, St Wilfrid's and Pleckgate High Schools.
Paul Rigby, musical director of the band, said: “We have been invited back for a third year and I am so proud of all our young players’ professionalism, energy and musical performances. They were a joy to watch with standing ovations on many of their concerts.”
