Warning as horse painkillers stolen from car
Horse painkillers which could prove potentially fatal if ingested by humans were stolen when a car was broken into in Unsworth.
Sachets of the horse painkiller Phenylbutazone, also known as Bute, as well as a sat nav were stolen between 4.30pm and 6.10pm yesterday.
The items were taken from a Citroen C4 at an address in Castle Road, and police are appealing for information.
Detective Sergeant Ben Cottam, said: “It may seem like an obvious thing to say but these drugs are not for human consumption and should not be taken.
“We have sought professional advice and have been told that ingesting just one sachet has the potential to make the person extremely unwell and taking more than one or combining it with something could prove fatal.
“If anyone has any information about who has the drug I would ask them to call us and I am also urging anyone with information about the car break-in to come forward.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
