LISTENING to Basement Jaxx is the musical equivalent of being beaten with a stick by a toddler with ADHD who has gorged themselves on a pound of sherbet.
It's an in your face, loud and visceral experience, and one that everyone should try at least once.
This performance was a mind-blowing, supercharged joy of a show, and the audience was assaulted with one Basement Jaxx hit after another, as well as snatches of other people's hits, such as Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back.
Flattery will get you everywhere with a Manchester audience, so flashing 30 foot projections of Manchester landmarks with flashing text saying 'we love this city' was bound to win everyone over.
Add to the mix a barrage of different light and sound effects, incredible vocalists and the fantastic Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton and you have one of the best gigs the arena has ever hosted.
By the time it's all over, you feel slightly shaken, and as if one more song would have led your ears to bleed, but you feel elated too.
Basement Jaxx are one of the best live acts this country has ever produced, and it is a crime if you live your life without seeing them at least once.
