Burnley store in Independent Achievers Academy prestige selection
A BURNLEY convenience store has been named as one of the top 100 shops of its kind in the UK and Ireland, after beating off 40,000 other hopefuls.
The Top Shop, operated by Premier Stores, achieved the coveted spot on the Independent Achievers Academy list of the Top 100 independent shops in the UK and Ireland.
The top 100 are judged using the 12 ‘core principles’ of retailing, including range, and customer and community service, and the Cog Lane shop scored well enough to be named on the list.
Sophie Towers, who has run the shop for about a year, said: “Competing in the award was a challenge as we are a new shop, especially when the mystery shopper came.
“But the staff were magnificent and achieved high marks in all areas.
“The process also shows us where improvements can be made and we will be working on these.
“We are a friendly, family shop and we work hard to provide our customers with what they want and at competitive prices.” Independent Achievers Academy project manager Hayley Pavlou said: “Achieving a place on the Top 100 list is fantastic and highlights the hard work of the retailer and their staff.”
The shops named on the top 100 list will now be further judged by a panel of experts to produce award winners.
All finalists for the awards will be invited to the prestigious IAA gala dinner, which will be held in London on Thursday, November 21.
Winners will be announced at the dinner, hosted by award-winning retail entrepreneur Laura Tenison, managing director of JoJo Maman Bebe.
