Nora Tucker watches Manchester United for the first time - at 104
FOOTBALL fan Nora Tucker celebrated her 104th birthday in style — watching her favourite team for the first time.
Nora, who lives at Whitefield House Care Home, was a guest of Manchester United at their match against West Brom last Saturday, which they lost 2-1.
With carer Julie Heywood, it was the first time Nora had ever been to watch her beloved team at Old Trafford, and for a moment she thought she may have to lace her boots and play herself!
Janet Shaw, senior care assistant, explained: “We all call her Nanny here, and one of the players is called Nani so when she heard his name she thought she was playing! She absolutely loved it.
“She was mesmerised by the game. All the supporters were saying she was looking well and asking her how you get to that age, and she told them hard work and plenty of rabbit stew.
“If the football comes on the TV she won’t go to bed, she will put her arm up and cheer. She just loves football.”
Nora’s birthday is tomorrow and she will mark the occasion with a special tea party at the care home with friends and family.
Nora has been at the home for two years where she is still very active.
Janet said: “She needs minimal assistance really and she does a lot for herself.”
The special trip to Old Trafford was arranged after staff at the home, in Church Lane, contacted the club to see whether they could help to mark the special birthday, and Nora was offered tickets for the game.
With the help of Sports Direct, Nora also wore a Manchester United shirt with ‘Nora 104’ printed on the back.
She will also be presented with a signed football from Manchester United at her celebration tomorrow, featuring the signatures of club legends such as Paddy Crerand and Alex Stepney.
