PROPOSALS to install a sculpture centre which would take up two-thirds of Bury Library have come under fire from Bury’s Tory leader.
Bury Council recently unveiled plans to locate the centre in the Bury Library, Museum and Art Gallery complex, which would affect the ground floor layout of the library.
The move has been criticised by library users who set up an online petition.
Cllr Iain Gartside, Bury’s Conservative leader, has now set up a poll on his blog and invited readers to answer the question ‘Should art sculptures replace book space at Bury Library?’ He received more than 300 responses, and nearly 90% of those who responded answered no.
The petition can be viewed by visiting www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/say-no-to-the-installation-of-a-sculpture-centre-in-bury-central-library
