A 28-year-old man who attended court with his bag packed ready to go to prison got his wish.
Blackburn magistrates jailed Mark Craig for 32 weeks after he pleaded guilty to stealing razor blades from Morrisons and theft of a satellite navigation system.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Craig had instructed him not to persuade the bench away from a custodial sentence.
“He has packed a bag and he is ready to go to prison today,” said Mr Taylor. “In many ways it is the easiest sentence for him but it leaves nothing in place for when he is released.”
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Craig was detained leaving Morrisons with the razor blades. When he was searched police found the satellite navigation system and he admitted finding it hidden in bushes when he was injecting heroin at 6.30 am. “He took it intending to sell it on to buy heroin,” said Miss Allan.
Craig, of Skye Crescent, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft.
