STAFF at Elton Primary School staff raised more than £1,000 for charity when they swapped the school bell for the starter’s gun.
A team of 23 women, which included close friends of staff members, took part in the 5km Race For Life at Heaton Park. They have now collected their sponsor money and handed over a cheque for £1,095 to Cancer Research UK.
It included money raised by holding a non-uniform day, selling cakes and face painting at the Alston Street school.
Teaching assistant Maxine Whiston said: “Cancer’s very close to our heart at school. We have had members of the school with cancer.
“We never expected to raise so much money. It’s brilliant.”
