A SOLICITOR from Burnley is gearing up to tackle his most challenging brief yet – swimming the 10.5-mile length of Windermere.

James Young, 35, who works for Donald, Race & Newton in Hargreaves Street, Burnley, is raising money for sufferers of a rare eye cancer, retinoblastoma.

Mr Young is part of an 11-strong team that has raised more than £16,000 for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) ahead of the swim on September 21.

He said: “There are many charities that receive substantial donations and media coverage but many others that do not despite the efforts of those involved.

“Having children changes your outlook on life and stories of suffering children affect you like never before. Every day I look at my children and think that I am fortunate that they are healthy and well.

“Up until a few years ago my swimming was restricted to holidays, but having competed in a few triathlons I started to quite enjoy swimming and realised that I am actually quite good at it.

“People have said I am mad but it will be an extremely proud moment when I climb out of the water.
