Bolton's cancer choir to stage festive performance - but it needs your help
A CHOIR of cancer sufferers and survivors is inviting others touched by the disease to join them on stage.
Bolton Cancer Voices will be taking to the stage at Victoria Hall in Knowsley Street for a festive concert, Jingle Bell Sing-A-Long.
Members of the choir will be taking what they believe is an unprecedented move of asking people suffering from cancer, cured of cancer and professionals who care or support cancer patients to join them on stage.
Group Besses o’ th’ Barn Band will be joining forces with Bolton Cancer Voices for the event on Saturday, September 7.
The charity was formed 14 months ago. It aims to provide a positive, motivational and diversionary environment for people and to give people a focus other than their illness.
Karen Elliott, chairman of Bolton Cancer Voices, said: “We are tremendously excited about this event and its challenging format — to have Besses agree to be part of what we hope will be a highly entertaining and inspirational evening is fantastic, they are a great band with a well-deserved reputation and it should be an awesome experience for audience and participants alike.”
New members for the choir are also needed.
People do not need to have previous singing experience, do not need to be able to read music and will not have to audition. It is also free to take part.
Anyone interested in joining will need to be available for rehearsals leading up to the concert.
Rehearsals will start on Monday, November 11, at the Friends Meeting House, Silverwell Street, Bolton from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. A dress rehearsal will also take place between 10am and 1pm on the day of the performance.
Ms Elliot added: “We just need people to have enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and the desire to have fun.”
