Huge bonfire display to return to Towneley Park
A HUGE bonfire and fireworks display is returning to Burnley for the first time in five years.
Set in the grounds of Towneley Park, the family event features a funfair, bonfire and two fireworks displays on Tuesday, November 5.
A fireworks display for young children will take place at 7.30pm and a main display at 8.30pm.
A council spokeswoman said: “The bonfire will be held on an area of overgrown grass near the higher playing fields near Towneley Hall. There will be no disruption caused to the football pitches."
Coun John Harbour, executive member for leisure on Burnley Council, said: “I am delighted the bonfire and fireworks display is returning to Towneley.
“It promises to be a fantastic event with a traditional family funfair with stalls and rides, a big bonfire and a firework display that will be the biggest and most spectacular seen in Burnley.”
“The council is very grateful to Balmers Garden Machinery which has kindly sponsored the bonfire this year.”
The event has been organised by Burnley Council in partnership with the Friends of Towneley Park and local community groups.
The bonfire will take place on the sports pitches at Higher Towneley.
Tickets are now on sale through the Mechanics Box Office at £2 for an individual and £5 for a family ticket. Tickets are also available at Contact Burnley, St Peter’s Leisure Centre, Padiham Leisure Centre and Towneley Hall.
With only 5,000 tickets available, the event is expected to sell out quickly.
Towneley Park will be closed to through traffic on the night but family tickets, which include parking and admission for up to four people, are available for £8 and £10.
The funfair will open at 6.30pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7.15pm.
