Former Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies comes back to town to receive charity donation
Super Kev visited staff at the Yorkshire Building Society, in Mealhouse Lane, to thank them for their fundraising efforts away from work.
Kevin said: “Obviously it’s great that companies in and around Bolton are raising money for us.
“We’ve had a lot of support from local companies and we’ve kept that support going so for us it’s been great.”
The charity was set up in 2010 and supports youngsters and organisations in Bolton, often helping them achieve sporting goals.
He added: “It’s gone better than we probably expected.
“We’re looking at working with local teams to improve their facilities and get some good football pitches.
“We’ve bought numerous football strips, equipment for schools and a trampoline for a trampolining club.
“We’ve also fitted out a gym for a gymnastics club. It’s not just a case of handing the money over, we like to get involved with mentoring and give the kids some help.”
Despite this investment, the charity still has funds to spend and Kevin encouraged families and children across Bolton to make themselves known to the charities.
He said: “Some families have three to four children who are very active and it’s impossible to support them. That’s where we come in, to try and help everyone we can. We’ve still got money in the bank and we need people to come forward, so if anybody needs help than please contact us.
“We get the emails in, we go and meet the people and if they’ve got the right attitude and we think they’re going to be a success and work hard, then we’ll be willing to support them.”
Julie Rawlings, manager of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “It’s just nice knowing that people will give back. Very few people walk past, most will come over and see what we’re doing and have a chat.
“It’s great to see how generous people are. Kevin is a legend in Bolton so to get him to come here to see us is really good for us.
