Accrington man wanted - for holding hands
A 23-YEAR-old man is being hunted by police after being recalled to prison - for holding hands with his girlfriend.
Police called at the home of Simon Charles Raith after he pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order.
They found no-one home at the Wilfred Street address in Accrington.
Raith faces a month behind bars after he was spotted walking hand-in-hand with his girlfriend, Lisa Payton - despite being banned from having any contact with her.
Being seen with her meant he would be recalled on prison licence for 28 days, Blackburn magistrates were told.
Raith was fined £70 with £70 costs, which was set against time already spent in custody.
Raith has previous convictions for harassment, assault and criminal damage and was sentenced to 62 weeks in prison in March.
He was released in April. Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said a police officer driving along Whalley Road in Clayton-le-Moors at 5.30pm saw Raith and Lisa Payton walking along hand in hand.
She said: “It would appear they are together as a couple but there is a restraining order.
“The normal way to go about this is to apply for the order to be removed by the courts.”
Simon Farnsworth, defending, said Raith had immediately been contacted by Miss Payton following his release from prison.
He said: “They were on their way to a doctor’s appointment for Miss Payton when they were spotted by this police officer.
“The breach is at the bottom end of the scale but it seems likely he will be recalled to prison for at least 28 days.”
