Justin Moorhouse launching regular comedy night in Prestwich
COMEDIAN Justin Moorhouse hopes to have local audiences crying for all the right reasons with the launch of a regular comedy event in Prestwich.
Last November, the funnyman, renowned for playing Young Kenny in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, set up Laugh Local, which sees guest stars perform intimate shows outside Manchester city centre.
After a successful ongoing tenure at Chorlton Irish Club, he is launching a soon-to-be monthly venture at Heaton Park Sports and Social Bar in Bury Old Road — starting this Saturday.
Justin explained: “It is quite simple really. I have been doing comedy for a long time now and what I like more than anything else is being able to go home and get into my own bed afterwards.
“So it was important to think of ways to bring decent events to local areas without people having to travel into the city centre.
“It’s a good old-fashioned night out, close to home — the sort of night your mum and dad would have had.
“No paying for taxis, no paying a fortune for drinks and you can still be back at a reasonable hour for the babysitter.” Laugh Local is held in partnership with Bop Local, a club night for the suburbs which launched at Heaton Park Sports and Social Bar last summer.
Laugh Local’s first Prestwich show will feature headliner John Thomson — star of Cold Feet, The Fast Show and most recently Celebrity Masterchef.
John will be supported by comedy acts Dave Williams and Greg Cook.
Doors will open at 7pm for a free pasty supper at the bar and the comedy will run from 8pm-11pm before Bop Local DJ Phil Beckett plays tunes until 1am.
Tickets cost £15 and are available on the door, online at boplocal.com, or from Pinto’s Cafe on Fairfax Road.
