Clitheroe shoppers to be given car plate deterrent
3:15pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
SHOPPERS in the Clitheroe branch of Sainsbury’s will be offered free numberplate screws on Friday, from 12.30pm to 4.30 pm.
The initiative by Ribble Valley police, is part of a drive to keep potential car-related crime in the area down.
The special screws make it more difficult for thieves to steal registration numbers, which can then be used to commit crimes such as drive offs from petrol stations.
Inspector Hassan Khan from Ribble Valley police said, “We have recently had a rise in number plate thefts so we want to offer residents reassurance that we are aware these crimes do happen, and are taking preventative action.
“Tamper proof screws are an extremely useful tool to help deter thieves and I hope this initiative will help us to keep this kind of crime from occurring.”
