£18k Audi stolen after spate of thefts hits East Lancs homes
AN AUDI car worth more than £18,000 was taken when burglars targeted a Blackburn home.
Police said sentimental jewellery, including necklaces, a tiara, designer watches and a gold crucifix, kept in a safe, were also taken from the property in Bolton Road, along with the 13-plate blue A3.
Bank cards were also taken.
The thefts come as two other homes, one in Grindleton Road and another in Shear Brow, were also broken into.
However the thieves left empty-handed on those occasions.
Det Sgt Eric Halford, from Blackburn CID said that it was possible that the burglaries, which all happened in the past seven days, were connected to four other similar incidents in Burnley, Nelson and Barrowford.
In those attacks, hundreds of pounds of Asian heritage jewellery was stolen. He urged residents to keep windows and doors locked, consider putting a chain on their door and to keep valuables in a secured safe.
Det Sgt Halford said: “There is a possibility that these burglaries are linked to four similar thefts, but that is something we are just looking into at the moment.
“I urge all residents to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police.
“I would also advise residents to make sure they lock their doors and windows and to make sure that any valuable property is not left on display. Many victims of jewellery thefts will hide things in places they think are hard to find such as in wardrobes or under beds.
“But we know from experience that those are the places that burglars will look in.
“Because of that, I would advise people to ensure that they leave their valuables in a secure, locked location such as a fixed or weighted safe that makes it hard to thieves to gain access to.”
Anybody with information about any of the burglaries is asked to call police on the number 101 or 08010 555111.
