Bolton taxi drivers told Metro fares will increase
A MEETING of Bolton taxi drivers was told that fares will rise at Metro - a firm that is at the centre of a long-running dispute.
Drivers at the meeting of the Bolton Private Hire Association, held in Quebec Street tonight, were told that Metro — Bolton’s biggest private hire firm — would be putting its fares up later this month.
A previous meeting between drivers and Metro at the Excellency banqueting suite in Lower Bridgeman Street descended into chaos when scuffles broke out and the police were called, with chairs allegedly being thrown.
But a spokesman for BPHA said: “It has now been agreed that the fares will rise on September 18 to £2.30 for the first mile and £1.30 for every mile after that.”
Drivers wanted higher fares in keeping with rival firms and had threatened strike action if the plans had not gone through.
