Bury Town Hall is logged off internet
BURY Council’s website performed its very own vanishing trick when it disappeared from Google’s search engine results pages.
The website could not be found by anyone searching for ‘Bury Council’ or their address ‘www.bury.gov.uk’ last Thursday for a number of hours.
A number of other related websites could be found, including the council’s Twitter page which was the second highest result, but the council’s website itself was nowhere to be seen.
Instead the top result on the search engine was a page on jobs website www.yourcounciljobs.
The top five of websites was completed by Bury’s Wikipedia page, a page on the Recycling for Greater Manchester website for Bury and a page on business directory site www.192.com.
It is unclear why the website was unable to be found on the search engine, and the problem was rectified later that day.
The Bury Council website appeared to still be in full working order, and could still be accessed by typing the webpage into the address bar.
The problem did not affect other search engines such as Yahoo or Bing, and it is not clear when the issue started.
The council’s website is now back in pride of place, at the top of Google’s search engine results.
A Google spokesman declined to comment following the incident.
