Offenders give out compost in Burnley

OFFENDERS on a community payback scheme gave out 10 tonnes of free compost to Burnley residents.
The session was organised by Burnley Council and the probation service and saw the group, members who were made to wear high visibilty vests with ‘community payback’ written on the back’ shovel the compost into bags ready to give out to members of the public.
Community payback is a punishment handed down by the courts and is an alternative to a prison sentence.
A spokesman for the probation service said: “We work closely with Burnley council to improve the town for everyone.
“Community payback is rigorous and demanding work carried out in the community by offenders to pay back for the crimes they have committed.”
