MEMBERS of Blackburn Musical Theatre Company will be joining international opera singer Roy Weissensteiner as he premieres a new concert show in the town at the weekend.
Roy, who has played The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera, invited the company to become his chorus for new show Absolute Musicals, which launches at Thwaites Empire Theatre on Sunday.
BMTC chairman Gary Worthy said: “It is an honour to be joining Roy on stage at our home, the Thwaites Empire, and we hope he feels the same way about us.
“Rehearsals have been very successful so far and some of members are really looking forward to something a little bit different, while learning from a great professional.
“The concert programme includes some new numbers for BMTC, as well as some favourites which our loyal audience will recognise – with the added bonus of seeing an international opera crossover star on stage in Blackburn.”
Australian Roy, who now lives in Liverpool with his wife Emma, a ballet dancer and Absolute Musicals’ choreographer, has performed at the Sydney Opera House more than 150 times. Also appearing are sopranos Sarah Helsby Hughes and Kendal Rebecca Bradshaw, with numbers from Les Miserables, West Side Story and The Secret Garden, as well as Phantom and others on the bill.
Roy said: “There is a lot of talent in the north west and concerts like this allow them to perform well and gain as much experience as possible. It is a valuable experience for those involved and people that love to sing.
“The professionalism combined with the passion is just fantastic.”
Absolute Musicals, Sunday, 7.30pm, Thwaites Empire Theatre, Ewood. Details from 01254 685500.
