THE Darwen branch of the Royal British Legion hopes to have ‘Darwen RBL 1914-1918’ written in poppies on the green between Market Street and Green Street.
As reported in the Lancashire Telegraph last week, Darwen Town Council has agreed to buy £500 of poppy seeds to be planted in the town as the 100th anniversary of the First World War looms next year.
Where the seeds will be planted was discussed at a Legion branch meeting on Tuesday, and Darreners have been asked to suggest possible locations. Poppy Appeal organiser for Darwen Stephen Potter said: “We want people to tell us where they think the poppies should be planted.
“We want to get the big display on the green in the town centre, but we also want to distribute them far and wide throughout the town. We want the people of Darwen to be involved in deciding where they are planted.”
Anyone with suggestions for where the poppies should be planted, call Mr Potter on 07756 257484.
