A TEENAGER who attacked his cousin with a snooker cue has been sentenced to nine months youth custody.

It was claimed that Jody Campbell also kicked and bit the victim, having earlier been struck over the head with an ash tray.

Emrys Burns-Hancock had returned home to Market Street, Church, to find the defendant asleep on the sofa, Preston Crown Court was told.

Keith Harrison, prosecuting, said the cousin tried to wake Campbell and a struggle went on to break out between them.

In the struggle, the cousin hit Campbell over the head with an ashtray and the defendant hit him over the head with a bottle.

The victim's mother then entered the room, with a snooker cue for her own protection.

The defendant took hold of the cue and hit his cousin repeatedly with it.

The cue broke, Campbell stopped the attack and left the premises.

The complainant needed stitches for a head injury.

Campbell, 19, of Richmond Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding.

He told police that both had given as good as they got.

On the basis of his guilty plea, he accepted having gone too far.

Mark Stuart, defending, said such an offence involving the use of a weapon would often result in immediate custody, but he asked the court to pass a suspended sentence.

There had been no premeditation.
